our work was largely informed by our clients’ love of the arts. iconic furniture pieces, like the saarinen tulip table and womb chair, add moments of excitement amongst the clean lines and spectacular views. a palette of blues and grays is accented by pops of color brought in by the client’s own art collection.
comfort was of the utmost importance. the client wanted something low maintenance and easy to care for so that they could focus on enjoying themselves. we took this into account when selecting all of our materials. while the overall aesthetic borders on minimalistic, the space still feels warm and welcoming.
for the entryway, we selected a handsome grey wallpaper to delineate the space and add visual interest. the original floors were laid in a gorgeous, thin herringbone pattern (swoon!). we had them sanded and re-stained, allowing our clients to keep the integrity, but change the look. luckily, the previous owner left behind additional wood pieces, allowing the contractor to fill in as needed while renovating the kitchen.
in order to expand the kitchen area we actually closed up one wall. this allowed us to gain space for usable storage, adjust the furniture layout, and improve the flow. wood cabinets were replaced with white cabinets for a light and bright feel while a durable and low-maintenance matte glass backsplash adds contrast.
the master bathroom also received a complete remodel. we selected white tiles and cabinetry accented by grey countertops and contemporary chrome fixtures. the existing tub was replaced with a stylish walk-in shower, perfect for a jet-setting couple on the go.
this apartment is blessed with an abundance closets (any new yorker’s dream!). no one wants to trip over luggage while they’re away, so we customized a space specifically for their suitcases. the client did not want to do drapery (with views like theirs, who could blame them?) so we installed roller shades in recessed soffits instead. as an added bonus, we positioned the dining table near window so they could enjoy the spectacular views while they eat.
an a/v enthusiast, our client wanted top of the line equipment with push-button convenience. we worked with a team of contractors and an audio-visual specialist to find homes for the necessary equipment, without compromising the overall aesthetic. other items not pictured include puck lights, which we installed in the dropdown ceiling, a sleeping nook in the living room, complete with convertible daybed for overnight guests, and a coat rack in the entry.
while working remotely may be a challenge for some, our team optimized the systems and procedures that we already had in place — like weekly updates, client notebooks, and comprehensive communication to all parties involved — to ensure that the whole project went off without a hitch. since the time change wasn’t conducive to live video chats, we shot videos during weekly site visits for the clients to review at their leisure. we pride ourselves on our level of organization and our desire to run every renovation or design project as smoothly as possible.
now that the renovation is complete, our client can truly enjoy their perfectly appointed pied-à-terre. upon arrival, all that’s left to do is make dinner reservations and decide which exhibit they want to see first.
