when they’re not traveling overseas for work, the clients split their time between nantucket and new york city. this residence, which serves as the couple’s city home, hadn’t been renovated in over 15 years and they were looking to start from scratch. not one piece of furniture from the old apartment was used in the redesign.
a newly installed custom desk, designed by the architect and complete with inlaid leather blotter, was an absolute must for the homeowner who uses it all the time. our team hand-selected all of the decorative pieces, lighting, and furniture; many of which were made-to-order. the living room features a custom-colored rug by one our favorite vendors. in the dining area, a bespoke base adds visual interest to a resin tabletop created by 3form. the client’s request for floating side tables resulted in a stunning custom-built unit in the guest bedroom. by working with brands like holly hunt, egg collective, and gabriel-scott, we were able to curate a selection of singular pieces that blend seamlessly with the couple’s style.
it was extremely important that the couple’s extensive art collection feature prominently in the space. the addition of millwork meant that the artwork would all be moved from its original positioning. our team was tasked with creating compelling groupings and figuring out placement for these colorful pieces from allover the world. we started by cataloguing all of the artwork and then mapped out where each piece would be placed during a special site visit. utilizing pictures and exact measurements, we determined where hardwired lighting needed to be installed to highlight the pieces.
having started with a blank canvas, it was remarkable to see the transformation of this space. our relationship with the architect proved to be especially beneficial to the project (three cheers for collaboration!). the end result was a beautifully edited, meticulously curated apartment perfectly at home in new york’s historic central park west.
