as we got to know our clients — a russian family using the apartment at their pied-à-terre — we found that they were avid art collectors who truly appreciated the beauty of fine furniture. each piece selected was, in its own way, an extension of the family’s collection of world-class artwork. we sourced exquisite furniture pieces from quality makers like holly hunt, dennis miller, and hudson furniture. we selected a palette of rich colors, used the finest quality materials, and created a classically chic home away from home.
the kitchen was gutted to create an eat-in dining area. an oversized, pixelated floral graphic wallpaper by élitis brings an edgy glamour to the space. custom cabinetry features polished nickel cabinet doorframes with inset blackened metal panels. combined with custom floating glass shelves from urban archeology, the overall effect is both modern and dramatic.
in the oversized living room we created two seating areas, delineated by individual area rugs. we selected comfortable contemporary furniture pieces in rich fabrics so that family members and guests alike would always have a soft place to land. motorized draperies add privacy when needed and allow for full access to the apartment’s stunning views of central park at the touch of a button.
his and hers offices offered the opportunity to play with traditional masculine and feminine styles. we enveloped his office in rich, chocolate browns and selected a muted gray mohair sofa with button tufting and a handsome wood arm. accent pieces with architectural details round out the space.
the theme of her office, which was intentionally in direct contrast to his, was “champagne and platinum.” we selected a magnificent silk wall-to-wall carpet from stark and a silvery lavender mohair sofa. this sophisticated space, meant to function as a ladies’ lounge for her and her girlfriends, is timeless elegance at its finest.
for the master bedroom, our clients wanted an especially rich feel. with that in mind, we installed upholstered suede walls, chocolate brown carpeting and layered window treatments with blackout roman shades and draperies. the result is tranquil and restorative.
in an effort to offer a similarly soothing experience for their visitors, the homeowners wanted a timeless and tidy guest bedroom. we selected delicate sconces and designed shelves in place of traditional nightstands. in the absence closets, we designed custom wardrobes as a stylish storage solution. a palette of icy lavender and champagne tones kept the space feeling light, bright, and utterly refined.
for their teenage son’s room, we selected a classic palette of blues and browns. the upholstered headboard and hermès throw add a dose of haberdashery, while industrial sconces and architectural details on the desk and chair round out the masculine feel of the room.
the bathroom was a full gut renovation. highlights include a custom millwork floating vanity, stone countertops, and a vessel sink. miniature chandelier light fixtures add a hint of tasteful opulence.
much like a russian doll, this two-story duplex serves as a host to a variety of individual spaces that are equally beautiful and unique.
